Do you know the difference between iron and stainless steel?
Garbo glassware-we export glassware, ceramic, opal glassware mainly. We will receive different inquiry from clients around the worlds. We found some client asked us a question: What is the difference between iron and stainless steel? It is a professional question, let us tell you the answer today.
We all know, some infuser is made from iron material, some infuser is made from stainless steel material. The most simple difference is cost. Stainless steel material cost is much higher than iron material cost. Except for the price, do you know the other difference? Hope below info. can be helpful for you more or less:
Below photos FYI:

Soda lime glass coffee maker with iron infuser:
1.The stainless steel cost is much high than iron cost, that is why you find the big price difference between the same teapot but different material infuser.
2. The stainless steel infuser won't make rust during the whole usage life. But if you choose iron infuser, there will be more or less rust after a period time for usage.
Except for above simple difference, below info. should let you know more:
The refining process of stainless steel is carried out by redox reaction, but there is a big difference between the two. The iron is the iron, and the stainless steel is the excess carbon in the pig iron. The impurities are removed. Therefore, iron and steel are distinguished by the amount of carbon. An iron-carbon alloy having a carbon content of 2% or less is steel, and a carbon content of 2% or more is called iron. Steel is widely used because of its toughness, elasticity, rigidity. The most common reason for most consumers to buy is that stainless steel will not rust.
In the case of rust, rust is not resistant to corrosion, and the main element that determines the corrosion resistance of stainless steel is chromium. Steel with a chromium content of 10.5% or more does not rust. At this time, the oxidation of chromium and a corrosive medium forms an oxide film on the surface thereof, which can prevent basic further corrosion. Relatively speaking, iron is not so resistant to corrosion. Our product has a layer of metal that is not easily rusted, such as zinc, tin, chromium, nickel, etc., is plated on the surface of the steel by electroplating or hot plating. These metal surfaces can form a dense oxide film to prevent iron products from rusting by contact with substances such as water and air.
